EASA Certifies New Safety System for Embraer E2 Jets

Embraer has announced that its Runway Overrun Awareness and Alerting System (ROAAS), developed for the E-Jet E2 family, has received certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

The system had previously been approved by Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC). With EASA certification, it can now also be made available to E2 operators in Europe and other countries that recognise EASA approvals.

ROAAS is an energy-based safety system that calculates in real time whether an aircraft can stop safely within the available runway during landing. Using algorithms developed by Embraer, the system continuously analyses aircraft performance during the approach and after touchdown. When a potential runway overrun risk is detected, it provides immediate alerts to the flight crew to support safer decision-making.

Embraer Chief Technology Officer Luís Carlos Affonso said safety remains the company’s highest priority, describing the EASA certification as an important milestone for the E2 programme.

The system is designed to improve situational awareness during landing, reduce the risk of runway overruns, provide real-time predictive alerts, and strengthen operational safety. Following the EASA approval, ROAAS will be offered to E-Jet E2 operators across Europe and in other markets that recognise EASA certification.
